Faith that Pleases God

  1.
  2. Title:    Faith that pleases God
    1.

Conclusion:      We see that faith is a lifestyle that God intended for man to live by, so that man could recieve and walk in the promises of God.

  1. Text:   Heb 11:6

6    But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  (NKJ)

  1. Theme:    God takes pleasure in blessing His people but it is impossible for God to bless His people outside of their faith in Him and in His Word.
  1. What faith is not.
  1. What is faith?
  1. How do you increase and develop your faith?
  1. Why is our faith so important to God?
  1. Body:
    1. What faith is not.
  1. Bible faith is not your religious affiliation.
  1. Faith is not believing but believing is part of faith.
  1. Bible faith is not based on your feelings or your five senses.

2 Cor 5:7    For we walk by faith, not by sight.  (NKJ)

    John 20:25-27
25    The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
26    And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"
27    Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."  (NKJ)

    John 20:27
27    Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.  (KJV)

God called unbelief an evil heart.

    Heb 3:12
12    Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;  (NKJ)

  1. What is faith?
  1. Faith is a gift from God.

Rom 12:3    For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is a spiritual force that could be defined as the down payment, proof or evidence that you possess or believe something BEFORE you see it.

Heb 11:1    Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is always NOW, in the present tense.  Faith does not tell time.

Heb 11:1    Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is the ability to act on what you believe.  Therefore, if we do not act on what we believe, our faith is dead.  This is the litmus test of faith.   If you cannot act on what you believe, then you do not really believe it.

James 2:26    For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is a combination of two ingredients: believing and acting.

Rom 10:8-10
8    But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
9    that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10    For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is like a seed.

    Luke 17:6
6    So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.  (NKJ)

    1. How do we develop our faith?
  1. Faith comes by hearing words. (whether God's or man's)

Rom 10:17    So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  (NKJ)

  1. Put the Word of God in your mouth.

(NKJ)

Rev 12:11    "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.  (NKJ)

    1. Why is our faith so important to God?
  1. Faith is the force that links us to God and all His promises.

Heb 6:12    that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.  (NKJ)

  1. God takes pleasure in blessing his people but his people must recieve those blessings by faith.    Ps 35:27

27    Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, "Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."  (NKJ)

  1. Faith is the Lifestyle of God.   Gen 1

    Rom 4:17
17    (as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed-- God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;  (NKJ)

  1. Our Faith in God is the one thing that the devil cannot overcome.

I Jn 5:4    For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-- our faith.  (NKJ)
