"The Well and Rivers of Living Water"

Isaiah 12:2-3
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. 3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (KJV)

John 7:37-38
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (KJV)

When is the last time you had a nice drink of cold water when you were really thirsty? Jesus offers all of us that thirst to come and drink from Him. In the book of Isaiah we see the passage referring to the wells of salvation (cited above). Jesus, in John 4:14 told the woman at the well, "But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give shall never thirst but the water that I give shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

The Word of God likens salvation to a well of water. A well of water is a place where one can draw out for their personal needs. On another note, Jesus also said in John 7:38 that those who believed on Him should experience what He called, "rivers of living water flowing out of their belly (spirit)." This divine flow is actually for the purpose of the ministry of the reconciliation, a work of the Holy Spirit flowing out of you to water and bring life to others.

When we believe on the Lord Jesus to save us from our sins we experience what the Bible calls salvation. The disciples experienced this on the day that Jesus was raised from the dead John 20:22 and Jesus breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

The disciples also experienced the rivers of living water fifty days later on the Day of Pentecost. On that day the Holy Spirit came like the sound of a mighty, rushing wind and sat upon all of them. As a result of this experience, all people gathered were filled with the Holy Spirit and given power and ability to have living waters flow from them.

So then we see salvation is likened unto a breath or a well, but being filled with the Holy Spirit is likened unto a mighty wind and rivers. A well is enough for you but God wants to fill you with His Holy Spirit so you can have more than enough to dispense rivers of living water to cleanse and refresh many.
